is defined as a:
Multidisciplinary field merging information and computer sciences with health care—it deals with the resources, devices, and methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information in health and biomedicine. Health informatics tools include not only computers but also clinical guide- lines, formal medical terminologies, and information and communication systems. (Tereyak, Abraham, Graham, Wilson, walker, 2007, p. 458).
Public health informatics
is defined as the, “ science of applying Information-Age technology to serve the specialized needs of public health” (Friede, Blum, & McDonald, 1995, p. 239).
is defined as ‘‘web-based health education and behavior change applications’’ (Skinner, Maley, & Norman, 2006, p. 406)
Consumer Health Informatics
is defined as
the “branch of medical informatics that analyses consumers’ needs for information, studies and implements methods of making information accessible to consumers, and models and integrates consumers’ preferences into medical information systems”
